My 2 parakeets love the 2 coconuts, however, there is a safety issue I resolved. The big metal ring that holds the bell is the same size as a parakeet neck (they could get caught and choke). I removed the big ring, bell and hook. Next I attached the bell to the smaller ring on the other end of the chain. I threaded the plain end of the chain through the hole in the coconut and then attached the hook to that end. Perfect fix!

WORD OF CAUTION:
My buddies love these and all was fine for a time, but a couple of weeks ago, one of my girls was sitting in the coconut and got caught in the threads of the cushion and couldn’t get out. she was writhing around and ended up falling to the bottom of the cage still attached to the cushion. Thank goodness I was home and saw it happen and was able to cut her out and she is completely fine now, but for a moment I thought she was dead because she mated there stunned for a second. I still keep the coconut in the cage, but have removed the cushion. One of the scariest experiences as a budgie owner.

I have parakeets, they love these as a place where they can take a time out a power nap. They are true to parakeet behavior, the first thing they did was to discard the colorful bedding. I wish I could buy without the bedding.

My finches love these! Both birds sleep in it side by side with plenty of room. It took a few days for them to want to go in but once they did, it was a game changer. They are washable but I just rinse with water and air dry so I don’t kill my birds with chemicals. They just laid their first egg in one!

Mango the parakeet I bought this one for will play with the bell, but she still will only lay her eggs in the corner on the pine pellets. No matter what I’ve bought to replace she is not going to settle for other than that corner of the cage. I think their design is perfect.
